Financial Aid Officer

Reports to: Director of University Financial Aid & Director of University Billing

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: A Financial Aid Counselor provides counseling services and Financial Aid awarded processes to students concerning their Title IV and University eligibility.

Under the general direction of the Executive Vice President of Finance

Under the direct supervision of Director of University Financial Aid and Director of University Billing. The employee is responsible for 1 shift, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to overtime as deemed necessary.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

1. Counsels and advises students and/or parents about financial aid eligibility for federal, state, institutional, and other relevant aid programs.

2. Generates financial aid awards for both prospective and current students; collects and/or analyzes financial data on students to determine eligibility for federal, state, institutional or other relevant aid programs while verifying that we are following the Department of Education rules and regulations.

3. Counsels, collects, and reviews verification documents to determine Title IV eligibility.

4. Analyzes various system-generated reports such as grades, enrollment status or award status to verify continued compliance and eligibility of students receiving aid under federal and institutional guidelines; notifies students of changes in eligibility of award and any alternatives to correct issues.

5. Coordinates and administers financial aid appeals and professional judgements.

6. Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Technical School Certificate in Business/Accounting or High School Diploma (GED/HiSET) or related on-the-job experience.

Proficiency in providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. Prioritizes and manages multiple job tasks; demonstrates listening and communication skills; ability to input/access data. Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word/Excel

Physical Requirements:

Work requires little or no physical effort. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is intermittent (not a routine part of the job) and secondary to the job.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment.
