Armed Security Officer
This position is for the evening shift, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
An Armed Campus Security Officer is responsible for carrying out the goals and mission of Bethel University and the Department of Safety and Security. This person will be responsible for patrolling, securing, and protecting the university campus to ensure a safe work and educational environment for all students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors. This position is for the main campus in McKenzie, Tennessee; however, officers may be required to perform duties at off-campus properties or other campus locations.
Responsibilities:
- Engage in direct interactions and building relationships with the campus community, including students, staff, and faculty to encourage a safe and positive campus environment.
- Conduct regular and random patrols around the campus and through campus facilities, by vehicle and on foot, and maintain alertness for any signs of abnormal conditions or unusual activities.
- Responsible for locking and unlocking of facilities in accordance with department procedures.
- Ability to analyze and respond to incidents and other critical situations firmly and professionally using problem solving, critical-thinking, and de-escalation techniques, when applicable.
- Be of good moral character, possess excellent communication skills, and be highly organized and able to multi-task and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
- Respond to general calls for assistance and other related tasks.
- Complete required computer work in accordance with department procedures, including shift notes, incident and accident reports, traffic citations, and reviewing surveillance cameras.
Physical Requirements:
- Walking or standing for long periods, climbing stairs, moving barricades and cones, or other physical demands, up to 50 lbs., may occasionally be required.
- Exposure to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, and rain is occasionally experienced.
- May involve some contact with potentially hazardous or harmful elements in providing administrative or support services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 25 years of age to be considered for the position.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
- Previous armed security or other comparable experience is desired, but not required.
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, and psychological examination.
- Meet all the training requirements to be certified as an Armed Security Officer in the State of Tennessee.
- Aerosol spray, handcuffing, AED/CPR, and other training are also required and will be offered upon passing all the above qualifications.
- Continued employment is contingent upon meeting all these requirements.
Additional Information:
Full-time position. Seeking one applicant. Assigned shifts, but candidates should be flexible to work different shifts, including holidays, and occasional overtime. Paid leave, health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k retirement, and employee tuition assistance is available.
